Sad news: 17-year-old Chinese badminton player Zhang Zhijie passed away during a match

    After receiving treatment on the spot, Zhang Zhijie was sent to the hospital for rescue, but the rescue efforts were ineffective. He unfortunately passed away at 23:20 local time on June 30, 2024 at the age of 17.




    In the group match between China and Japan in the 2024 Asian Youth Badminton Mixed Team Championships, when the third men's singles match was in progress, the young Chinese badminton player Zhang Zhijie suddenly fell to the ground and convulsed when he was about to receive the serve after the first game was tied at 11.

    After being treated on the spot, Zhang Zhijie was sent to the hospital for rescue but failed. He unfortunately passed away at 23:20 on June 30, 2024, local time, at the age of 17

    Zhang Zhijie was born in Jiaxing in 2007. He started playing badminton in the kindergarten class. He was sent to the Zhejiang Provincial Team in the third grade of elementary school and joined the National Youth Team in 2023.

    He successively won the 2022 National U Series Badminton Competition U15-17 Finals 15-year-old men's singles championship, the 2023 National Youth Badminton Championships Group B men's singles championship, and the men's team championship, the 2024 Netherlands Youth Badminton International Championships men's singles championship, and the 2024 National Youth Badminton Championships Group B men's team championship.
