2024-06-14

On June 11, Beijing time, the Badminton World Federation updated the world rankings for the 24th week of 2024. Shi Yuqi, who won the men's singles championships at the Singapore Open and Indonesia Open back-to-back, surpassed Danish player Anders Antonsen and topped the world rankings for the first time in his career. This is also the first time that the Chinese badminton team has topped the men's singles rankings in 8 years.

This season, Shi Yuqi reached the finals in five tournaments, namely the Malaysia Open, India Open, French Open, Singapore Open and Indonesia Open, and won four consecutive championships in the latter four events. In addition, this season, he only lost three games, namely the final of the Malaysia Open, the quarter-finals of the All England Open and the semi-finals of the Asian Championships. He has currently achieved a record of 35 wins and 3 losses, with a winning rate of 92%. At the same time, he also won all six games in the Thomas Cup.

With back-to-back wins at the Singapore Open and Indonesia Open, Shi Yuqi's points surpassed the 100,000 mark for the first time, making him the second Chinese male singles player to achieve this feat after Chen Long, and the fifth male singles world No. 1 with 100,000 points in badminton history. This is also the first time that the Chinese badminton team has topped the world No. 1 men's singles ranking in eight years since Lin Dan in 2016.
